IBM 3599 Tape Cartridge

20TB native capacity

IBM 3599 Tape Cartridge models deliver enhanced capacity enterprise tape drives

Four new models of IBM 3599 Tape Media deliver the option to order data cartridges for IBM TS1160 tape drives, machine type 3592, model 60F or 60G.

The following 3599 models are available:

  • 3592 Advanced Data cartridge – Type E: Models 426 and 526 provide up to 20TB R/W native physical capacity of storage
  • 3592 Advanced Economy cartridge – Type E: Models 436 and 536 provide up to 5TB rewritable native physical capacity of storage

These tape media models have cartridge memory in each data cartridge designed to help enhance functionality and reliability of the media.

This higher capacity tape cartridge media is supported when TS1160 Model 60G is integrated or used in the TS3500 tape library, or when TS1160 HD2-compatible tape drive Model 60F is integrated or used in the TS4500 tape library (machine type 3584) and standalone rack environments.

The latest versions of TS1160 drive microcode and library or subsystem firmware may be required to support the higher capacity 3592 Advanced Data cartridges.

The higher capacity tape cartridges are designed for applications such as archiving and data retention, including those applications requiring security or an audit trail. These cartridges work with the TS1160 to help prevent the unauthorized access, alteration, or deletion of user data, and are supported by the encryption capability in TS1160 model 60G and 60F tape drives and their associated IBM Security Key License Manager components.

As with previous models, these models deliver flexibility in the specification and ordering of prelabeled and initialized data cartridges.

Key requirements
These products are only for use with IBM TS1160 HD2-compatible tape drive Model 60F or TS1160 tape drive Model 60G. The latest versions of the TS1160 drive microcode and library or subsystem firmware may be required to support 3592 Advanced Tape Cartridge media.

Planned availability date: January 18, 2019
