UK IT Support Company Tessellate OS Customer of Nakivo

Nakivo Inc. has announced that Tessellate OS Ltd has selected Nakivo Backup & Replication to protect their VMware environment.

Tessellate OS is an IT support company and a hosting solutions provider that operates within the media industry in London, UK and NYC, USA.

It provides hosting solutions for large international sites; as a result, the company needs to provide additional backup solutions that are reliable and robust. Overall, it supports multiple customers across various sites, such as data centers and different hosting setups.

Tessellate OS’s environment is virtualized, thus VMware VMs contain private information like customer’s documents, private and purchase information for the hosting side of the business, as well as file servers and SQL servers.

In addition, Tessellate OS needs to protect e-commerce information, which is essential for the success of the company, and thus needs to be reliably backed up. Failure to do so could result in compensation claims, as well as the loss of customer’s confidence. Therefore, having accurate VM backups is imperative for preventing data loss and downtime.

In the past, Tessellate OS encountered multiple backup solutions and settled on a combination of two. However, as their storage grew, the reliability and speed of the previous VM backup solutions started to become a hindrance to the company. This resulted in the company having to search for an alternative solution.

“With one backup software, we experienced many failed backup jobs. The other backup software was great for smaller setups, however, for large backup jobs, the product just could not keep the same speed. In addition, incremental backups were slow and hard to manage. Fundamentally, we needed a VM backup solution that would provide fast incremental backups that were easy to manage and understand, with easy navigation that showed all the information in one go,” says Justin Walker, managing partner, Tessellate OS.

Tessellate OS deployed Backup & Replication as a pre-configured virtual appliance to protect their virtual environment. The solution delivers availability of critical IT systems with the help of forever-incremental backup and instant recovery. The company’s initial impression about Nakivo’s solution was that the software was quick to install, easy to use, and provided quality customer support.

“Even during the initial testing stage, we received timely and professional support, when we had some initial configuration issues, so that has influenced our decision to go with Nakivo Backup & Replication. As for the whole setup experience, the process took five minutes, you can start backing up in a matter of minutes after that, but everything is pretty smooth and straightforward. Right now, the product is deployed as a pre-configured virtual appliance, but in the near future, we are considering QNAP NAS installation as well. With QNAP NAS, we are hoping to see even better performance,” reports Walker.

The VM backup is faster in comparison to Tessellate OS’s past backup solutions. With forever-incremental backup, backup jobs can be completed in few hours.

“The initial full backup would run approximately 12 hours, while the forever-incremental backups can complete in a few hours. Nakivo Backup & Replication shortened our backup windows for sure and allowed us to keep expanding, without further investments in faster hardware. This has been especially useful for our expansion into hosting, which for us results in many more VMs that need to be backed up,” Walker explains.

Moreover, with job chaining, Tessellate OS can link backup jobs, and thus can run one after another. The job chaining functionality helps automate and simplify backup management; it also makes scheduling backup jobs a breeze.

“Job chaining is one of my favorite features, as this functionality allows us to run multiple backup jobs one after another, without guessing how long each will take. Meaning overnight backups are right now automated to the maximum,” says Walker.

“In addition, with Nakivo Backup & Replication, Tessellate OS can complete all VM backups jobs in one day, rather than in a period of time that could last up to several days. Previously, we were backing up certain VMs on one day, other VMs on another day. Now, we can run all VM backups overnight, without any issues,” he adds.

The Nakivo solution also provides Tessellate OS with the ability to recover entire VMs and files from VM backups.

“Recovering individual files from VM backups is a plus, especially when some accidental deletions happen. However, by having instant VM recovery functionality, we can bring back an entire VM online, in case of any catastrophic failure. Therefore, instant VM recovery is one of the most critical features for us,” Walker says.

Deployed as a pre-configured virtual appliance, the solution provides Tessellate OS with fast forever-incremental backup, job chaining, instant VM and file recovery. Due to incremental backup, Tessellate OS can backup all of their VMs in a few hours overnight. With job chaining, all backup jobs can be linked to run one after another, thus improving scheduling and saving time on backup administration. Lastly, Tessellate OS can recover entire VMs and individual files.

“The previous backup products could not handle our growing data, while Nakivo Backup & Replication allowed us to backup all VMs in a single day. We have doubled the amount of our VMs in the last three months, thus we are glad that we switched to Nakivo Backup & Replication because we have consolidated everything into a single solution. Ultimately, Nakivo Backup & Replication helped us save money and backup administration time,” says Walker.
