IBM Big Replicate for Backup V2.0 augments IBM Big Replicate with backup and restore capabilities

IBM Big Replicate provides replication technology that gives live data, consistent data across all of business application environments, regardless of geographic location, data platform architecture, or cloud storage provider.

Big Replicate uses patented, active-transactional replication technology to help address the difficult, expensive, and time-consuming challenges of moving big data operations from lab environments to production environments, across multiple Hadoop distributions, and from on-premises to a cloud environment that is governed by data availability agreements. The solution is designed to provide continuous availability, streaming backup, and uninterrupted migration.

Big Replicate for Backup V2.0 is a new add-on feature to Big Replicate. This add-on enhances your environment by enabling backup and data restoration capabilities to:

• Help eliminate administrative error or malicious activity losing data in a replicated environment
• Retain data that have been modified
• Restore data that have been modified in error

With Big Replicate for Backup, users can schedule backups through HDFS snapshots and create snapshot policies that define the schedule, retention period, and capacity requirement for a specific HDFS location. Outdated snapshots can be deleted independently of retention policies to increase storage capacity.

Furthermore, it does not require a dedicated cluster for holding backup content and state (a regular Fusion zone can be marked for backup purposes on a per-location basis).
