Supercomputing: Newisys, Division of Sanmina, Renames Viking Enterprise Solutions

And adds range of storage servers, hybrid and all flash products, NVMe-over-Fabric solutions, as well as set of application-specific storage software.

Newisys, a product division of Sanmina Corporation, has been renamed Viking Enterprise Solutions.

NEWISYS Viking

The division has unveiled its brand at the Super Computing 2018 (SC18) event, taking place November 12-15 in Dallas, TX.

This name was selected to better represent its expanded product portfolio for hyperscale data centers and storage OEMs. In addition to providing JBOD storage systems, the company has added advanced storage servers, a range of hybrid and all flash products, NVMe-over-Fabric solutions, as well as a set of application-specific storage software to its portfolio.

Viking Enterprise Solutions builds on Sanmina’s existing Viking Technology brand of memory products and increases the strategic perception and impact of these businesses for Sanmina,” said Dan Liddle, VP, marketing, Viking. “With JBODs, storage servers, industry leading all flash solutions and now application software, the new brand reflects our broader strategic solution set.

Also at SC18, the company introduced hardware and software platforms, including:

  • NDS-41020 storage array: A 4U, 102 drive HDD-based SAS/SATA JBOD storage array that provides density, capacity and price-per-gigabyte). The NDS41020 is configured with 3.5 inch HDD drives having a variety of capacities from a number of component vendors, and provides cost advantages due to its smaller form factor and higher density. The JBOD connects to external servers using SAS or SATA interfaces for integration into existing architectural infrastructures.
This product provides the ability to scale, based on its tremendous capacity in a 4U form factor with a design that is enterprise grade, highly redundant, with no single point of failure. Additional highlights include FRU-based field repair capabilities which simplify and reduce support costs

  • Application-specific software packages: The firm’s products support a range of third-party software solutions. Also offer two application-specific software packages:

      • Software targeted for HPC and media and entertainment (M&E) applications. This software is specifically targeted for HPC and M&E applications that require up to 5 million IO/s and 22GB/s of throughput with HA, and without the overhead of data management services.

      • VES DRAID management software that leverages distributed RAID (DRAID) technology to deliver up to 20% improvement in I/O data rates. Depending upon configuration, it delivers rebuild rates that can be tens to hundreds of times faster compared to traditional non-distributed RAID arrays.

We are proud of the back-to-back Best of Show‘awards we’ve recently won for our products under the Newisys name, and believe Viking Enterprise Solutions better reflects the range of our hardware and software products,” said Rick Kumar, SVP, Viking. “You will continue to see a cadence of new, products and technologies rolled out in the coming year as we build upon our accelerating market momentum.

The company has an history of provider in providing storage and storage serving platforms to hyperscale and enterprise data centers worldwide. It offers high capacity and high-end flash systems. In addition, the firm offers a range of high capacity, high density storage and storage serving systems for cold and primary storage applications using both spinning disk and flash storage media.
