Freecom (Verbatim) Launches In Europe mSSD Celeritas Thunderbolt3 Portable Drive

Freecom Technologies Limited, a Mitsubishi Kagaku Media Company, launches in Europe the mSSD Celeritas Thunderbolt3 drive – a drive of its kind that can transfer files up to twenty times quicker than HDD drives – making it for video content creators and business and IT professionals where the transfer of large data files at high speed is critical.

The Celeritas can deliver stunning speeds of up to 2,800MB/s ⁽¹⁾ (read) and 2000MB/s (write). Comparing with other storage devices, transferring 500GB of data to a regular HDD drive (at 100-150 MB/s) would take over 60 minutes and a regular SSD (at 450-500MB/s) would take around 16 minutes, while saving to the mSSD Celeritas (at 2,800 MB/s) would take approximately four minutes.

A Thunderbolt 3 port can be used to connect a range of peripheral types to a computer. Thunderbolt is fast (see speed comparisons below), but also Thunderbolt port is versatile and uses the common USB-C connector to connect to most modern devices.

The SSD is housed in a industrial-looking silver enclosure which provides an effective heatsink to keep the electronics components at an optimum temperature. It weighs 186g and measures 12.6×6.0mm and 1.9mm (LxW xH) giving it both pocket-friendly portability and toughness.

The mSSD CELERITAS 1TB has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of around £609/€679 and is available in Europe.
