New Utility Offerings for IBM FlashSystem 9100
And support for 800GB 2.5-inch NVMe SSD

IBM FlashSystem 9100 utility models provide a variable capacity storage offering. These models offer a fixed capacity, with a base subscription of 35% of the total capacity.
IBM Storage Insights (free edition or pro) is used to monitor system usage, and capacity used beyond the base 35% is billed on a per month, per terabyte basis. This enables to grow or shrink usage, and only pay for the configured capacity.
The system is leased through IBM Global Finance on a three-year lease. The variable capacity billing is handled through the Common Business Solutions billing system.
Support for an 800GB, 2.5-inch NVMe flash drive for the FlashSystem 9110 and 9150 systems has been added to IBM Spectrum Virtualize version 8.2.0.
FlashSystem 9100 utility models are intended for use where variable billing is required to meet a solution’s requirements.
Spectrum Virtualize Software for FlashSystem 9110 V8 (5639-FA2) or FlashSystem 9150 V8 (5639-FA3) is used to manage the system and the optional features under the base software (easy tier, FlashCopy, remote mirror).
Storage Insights (free edition or pro) is used to monitor the system and is required in the utility model space.
The local project office will work with the Storage Insights data to determine the actual physical data provisioned in the system. This data will be compared to the base system capacity subscription, and any provisioned capacity beyond that base subscription will be billed per terabyte, per month, on a quarterly basis.
Key prerequisites
- FlashSystem 9100 requires Spectrum Virtualize Software for FlashSystem 9100 V8.2, or later, for operation. Use of the software is entitled through the acquisition of Spectrum Virtualize software licenses.
- FlashSystem 9100 three-year warranty machines (machine type 9848) require the enterprise support (ECS) administrative software indicator (PID 5773-FLH).
- Storage Insights (free edition or pro) is used to monitor the system and is required in the utility model space.
