Estonian Estonian IT Services Company Trooton Selects Nakivo

To speed up VM backup/recovery while saving "30%" storage space

Nakivo, Inc. has announced that Trooton oü, an Estonian IT services and consulting company, has selected its Backup & Replication to protect their VMware environment.

Trooton is an IT services and consulting company based in Tallinn, Estonia. The company offers a variety of services to their customers, including consultations, implementation of IT solutions, and support services. With datacenters in different cities across Estonia, Trooton’s and their clients IT infrastructure comprises usually several physical servers and dozens of VMware VMs. Many of Trooton’s customers have multiple sites in different countries and cities in Europe. All of their IT infrastructure runs on vSphere.

Trooton’s VMware VMs store an abundance of data, from files to databases and web applications. The company is always on the lookout for reliable IT solutions for their customers, and the same rule applies for the internal IT tools Trooton uses. data protection is of the high priority for the firm and their customers, which is why a well-balanced VM backup solution was needed to safeguard Trooton’s and their clients business-critical services.

In the past, we have used several different legacy backup solutions, especially agent-based solutions. The main disadvantages of these legacy backup solutions were that they were quite cumbersome or difficult to use or manage. At the same time, VM backup and recovery times were long. It was vital for us to find a vendor that would not only offer a fully-featured product, but also provide reliable support services. Overall, we were looking to minimize our backup times, perform quick and easy VM recovery, and have the ability to copy backups offsite,” says Elmar Schasmin, CEO, Trooton.

All of Trooton’s requirements were met by Backup & Replication, an affordable agentless VM backup solution built for virtualization. The solution offers application-aware and forever-incremental VM backup as well as fast and reliable VM recovery, and the product provides the ability to copy backups to offsite locations.

Nakivo Backup & Replication is easy to implement and manage, provides optimal resource consumption, and offers all the needed features for us and our customers,” says Schasmin.

With image-based backup and forever-incremental backup, Trooton is able to ensure the protection of their VMs while enjoying increased backup speeds.

Backup jobs are scheduled on a daily basis, but for most business-critical VMs backup intervals of just 15 to 60 minutes. During the backup process, entire VMs are captured, including disks and configuration files, and only the data that was changed is transferred to the backup repository. Forever-incremental backup offers real value for us, as it greatly improved VM backup performance. In less than an hour, we are able to backup most of our VMs,” says Schasmin.

With Nakivo’s incremental backup, deduplication, and compression, Trooton achieves efficient disk-based VM backups.

All the space-saving features helped us to decrease the storage disk space taken up by approximately 30%, thus giving us a chance to backup more often and store more VM backups in the backup repository,” says Schasmin.

For Trooton, having more than one copy of business-critical backups is important so that they can ensure data recoverability in case of a disaster. Backup & Replication’s Backup Copy feature provides a simple and powerful way to create and maintain copies of VMware VM backups and copy them offsite. Thus, if something happens to Trooton’s or client primary infrastructure, they will have an extra copy of their backups at a secondary location.

With Nakivo, Trooton meets their goal of providing their customers with VM recovery within less than 4 hours. With Instant VM Recovery, any VM can be recovered directly from compressed and deduplicated VM backups near-instantly. By choosing a VM backup, a recovery point, and a recovery location, a VM can be booted in a few minutes. “Nakivo Backup & Replication definitely improved our VM recovery process, so now we can meet SLAs in less time and with less effort,” says Schasmin.

Nakivo provides Trooton with improved VM backup and recovery speeds and more efficient disk space utilization. The company can backup their VMs in less than an hour and near-instantly recover entire VMs. With the product’s space-saving features, Trooton uses 30% less VM storage.

Nakivo Backup & Replication fits perfectly into our virtual environment and helps us fulfill our customer’s needs and requirements. The product improved VM backup and recovery speed, gave us the ability to copy backups offsite, and saved us VM storage space. In the future, we will also aim to take advantage of Nakivo Backup & Replication’s integration with various NAS devices,” says Schasmin.
