Imanis Data Management Platform V4.0 With Autonomous, Machine Learning-Powered Backup and Launch of SmartPolicies

Introduces autonomous RPO-based backup, enhanced anomaly detection, and automated any-point-in-time recovery for NoSQL.

Imanis Data, Inc. announced an upgrade to the Imanis Data Management Platform (IDMP), continuing the company’s momentum since raising $13.5 million Series B funding earlier this year.

This version 4.0 includes autonomous backup, any-point-in-time recovery for multiple NoSQL databases, enhanced ransomware prevention, as well as company’s management enhancements.

Hadoop and NoSQL applications are running in virtually every enterprise on-premises and in the cloud, but they lack enterprise data management capabilities, exposing organizations to data loss, downtime, and cyberattacks.

According to our research, 78% of organizations currently use NoSQL databases and an additional 18% plan to in the future,” said Christophe Bertrand, senior analyst, data protection, ESG Research. “The data protection market in this space is underserved by traditional vendors and Imanis Data with their unique machine learning approach is setting the bar for Hadoop and NoSQL enterprise data management.

IDMP 4.0 builds on company’s technologies including:

  • Data SmartPolicies delivers  autonomous, machine learning-powered backup.

  • Data ThreatSense Intelligence Augmentation integrates human feedback with machine learning-powered anomaly detection for applications including ransomware prevention.

  • Automated Any-Point-In-Time Recovery (APITR) for NoSQL delivers recovery flexibility.

  • Enhanced enterprise capabilities expand the company’s database ecosystem and further simplify the user experience.

On-premises and cloud-based Hadoop and NoSQL deployments are proliferating rapidly across enterprises everywhere, but innovation around enterprise data management tools has not kept pace, creating a huge challenge,” said John Mracek, CEO, Imanis. “Our unique machine learning-based approach to data management provides enterprise customers with the data protection, data orchestration, and automation solutions they need to address their governance remediation, and compliance requiremets.

Machine learning data management
With this release, the company introduce autonomous backup powered by machine learning. With SmartPolicies, enterprise customers no longer need to worry about how to meet required RPOs, for example, when to run backups or how frequently. Instead, users can specify the desired RPO and the firm’s SmartPolicies does the rest.

Machine learning is increasingly being adopted within data management products for their improved operation and optimization,” according Donald Feinberg, VP, distinguished analyst and Merv Adrian, research VP, Gartner. “Gartner recommends that data and analytics leaders focused on data management capabilities make ML-enabled capabilities a ‘must-have’ selection criterion for new purchases of data management products. Based upon numerous metrics including desired RPO, criticality and volume of data to be protected, primary cluster workloads, and daily or seasonal resource utilization, SmartPolicies will determine the most efficient way to achieve the desired RPO.

If an RPO can’t be met, for example where production systems are always too busy, or computing resources are insufficient, then SmartPolicies provides recommendations that can make the RPO executable. This saves enterprises time and cost by reducing the human overhead required to manage the backup process, avoids the risk of missed RPOs, and eliminates human error.

The company’s ThreatSense ransomware detection is also enhanced in this release and includes ‘Intelligence Augmentation’ which allows users to report false-positives only identifiable through human observation. This data is fed back into the ML model, eliminating specific anomalies and making detection even more effective.

Automated any-point-in-time recovery for NoSQL
With this release, the firm provides automated any-point-in-time recovery for multiple NoSQL databases. Enterprises will no longer be limited to fixed blocks of recovery time, but instead will be able to restore data to any specific point in time, providing the ultimate in recovery flexibility.

Data is the key to creating engaging digital experiences for customers and employees, so ensuring that data is protected is critical,” said Matt McDonough, VP, business development, Couchbase. “Imanis Data’s unique machine learning-powered approach to enterprise backup and recovery complements our market-leading Engagement Database, and it’s a good fit for customers wishing to protect their data-on-premises or in the cloud.

Enhanced enterprise management
Version 4.0 expands the company’s ecosystem of supported Hadoop and NoSQL platforms, including Apache Cassandra, Apache HBASE, Cloudera, Couchbase, DataStax, Hadoop, HDInsight, HortonWorks, Microsoft ADLS, MongoDB, and Vertica platforms. Additionally, the latest release includes usability enhancements to the firm’s FastFind, including job tag listing and a browsable catalog for simple recovery.

Edge Solutions is very excited to work with Imanis Data,” stated David Able, managing partner and COO, Edge Solutions LLC. “It is exciting for Edge Solutions to clearly stand at the forefront of a new IT model and provide cutting edge IT solutions. Our partnership with Imanis Data is a perfect match for our customers.
