miniSD (2003 – 2008)
miniSD was introduced by SanDisk in 2003, and was a smaller version of Secure Digital (SD).
While miniSD was designed for use in mobile phones, it usually came packaged with an adaptor to allow it to be used in any device with an SD slot.
miniSD had a capacity of up to 2GB and in 2006, SanDisk introduced the 4GB miniSDHC, which required the device to have HC support built in. miniSDHC cards have a capacity of up to 32GB.
An even smaller variant of Secure Digital, microSD, was released in 2005, and this effectively made miniSD obsolete by 2008.
