American Megatrends, Inc., Norcross, GA, has been assigned a patent (10,001,947) developed by Chatterjee, Paresh, Fremont, CA, Ranganathan, Loganathan, Mallavaram, Venugopalreddy, Duluth, GA, and Gopalakrishnan, Sankarji, Fremont, CA, for “systems, methods and devices for performing efficient patrol read operations in a storage system.“
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “An example computer-implemented method for performing efficient patrol read operations in a storage system including a plurality of disks organized in a RAID array can include determining an I/O load on the storage system, identifying at least one portion of an available storage capacity containing valid data and reading the portion of the available storage capacity containing the valid data. Optionally, the portion of the available storage capacity containing the valid data is the only portion read during the patrol read operations. The method can also include determining whether a medium error exists in the portion of the available storage capacity containing the valid data. If a medium error exists, the method can include fixing the medium error. Additionally, the above operations can optionally be performed only when the I/O load on the storage system is less than a predetermined threshold.”

Detecting redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller state
from baseboard management controller (BMC)
American Megatrends, Inc., Norcross, GA, has been assigned a patent (9,946,552) developed by Balakrishnan, Venkatesan, and Vinodhini, J., Chennai, India, for a “system and method for detecting redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller state from baseboard management controller (BMC).“
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “Systems and methods for synchronizing a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller with a management controller. The system includes the management controller, a RAID having the RAID controller connected to the management controller; and a serial bus connected to the management controller and the RAID controller. The RAID controller is configured to, when the RAID is powered up, assert the serial bus with a ready signal, and the management controller is configured to, upon checking the ready signal from the serial bus, construct a communication with the RAID controller for communicating with the RAID.”
