1984: MiniScribe 8425
1st 3.5-inch HDD using industry standard disk
Why it’s important
First to adopt standard 95mmx25mm disk from ad-hoc industry standards group. Industry moved away from vendor established standards to industry committee established standards. Open loop positioning technology limited capacity and therefore its market acceptance.
Capacity was 21.4MB on two platters rotating at 3,600rpm with ST-506 interface.
