Arizona Board of Regents on Behal of University of Arizona and Hitachi Assigned Patent

The Arizona Board of Regents on Behalf of the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, and Hitachi Ltd., Kanagawa, Japan, has been assigned a patent (9,977,402) developed by Takashima, Yuzuru, Tucson, AZ, and Shimada, Kenichi, Kanagawa, Japan, for an "optical information recording/reproducing apparatus, optical information recording/reproducing method."

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "An optical information recording/reproducing apparatus and method thereof which compensate for the effect of mechanical instability on holographic data storage. A time dependent deviation profile of an optical beam during recording is determined. The time dependent deviation profile is related to a phase profile to be applied to a reference beam during recording or reproduction of a hologram, and the related phase profile is applied to the reference beam during recording or reproduction of the hologram.

The patent application was filed on June 7, 2014 (15/316,411).
