Toshiba: 10TB N300 NAS and X300 Performance Internal HDDs, and 2TB L200 Laptop and 3TB P300 Desktop HDDs

Including color labeling for each HDD: N300 in gold NAS label, X300 in silver performance label, and both P300 and L200 in red desktop/laptop PC label

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) announces capacity expansions, new label, and package branding to the internal HDD lineup, expanding the company’s profile in the HDD space.


The capacity updates include the N300 NAS HDD and X300 Performance HDD in 10TB (1) and the L200 Laptop PC HDD in 2TB capacities. Another HDD in the lineup offers the P300 Desktop PC HDD with new branding.


The N300 3.5-inch (2) internal NAS HDD series, for personal, home office and small business NAS application, is available in 10TB capacity, and features 7,200rpm and a 256MB data buffer, two times the cache as the existing 4, 6 and 8TB models. With support for up to eight drive bays in a multi-RAID NAS (3) design, the N300 is scalable to the users’ NAS configurations as their storage needs evolve. This HDD line of high-reliability drives have a high workload rating of up to 180TB/year (4) and are optimized for the performance, reliability, endurance and scalability required of NAS environments in which large amounts of data need to be efficiently stored and accessed daily.

The X300 3.5-inch Performance HDD series comes in 10TB and features the company’s cache technology, optimizing cache allocation during R/W to provide high-level performance in real time. Available in a 3.5-inch form factor, the X300 performs at 7,200rpm and an increased cache up to 256MB. The X300 Series delivers performance and capacity for creative and professional applications including graphic design, animation, photo and video editing, and PC gaming.

The P300 Desktop PC HDD series are performance models for home and office users and are available in up to 3TB storage capacity. The model operates at 7,200rpm and built-in shock sensors that detect impact and reduce vibration during read and write operations, improving tracking accuracy and performance.

The L200 Laptop PC HDD series are available in 2TB and come in a 2.5-inch mobile drive that provides capacity upgrade, is shock and vibration-resistant compared to 3.5-inch HDD and works with every major brand notebook computer, gaming systems and for external storage use. The 2TB 9.5mm and slim 1TB 7mm models offer an increased cache of 128MB. The L200 lineup has a low power profile compare with 3.5-inch HDD, to help optimize the device’s battery life, as well as built-in shock sensor and ramp loading technology for reliability.

Toshiba is expanding the consumer internal HDD lineup with higher capacity and performance specs,” says Michael Cassidy, VP, consumer HDDs, Americas, TAEC. “Additionally, our efforts in refreshing the HDD label and package design aim to make internal HDDs more consumer friendly and easier to shop for the right application.

The company continues to expand product offerings with higher storage capacity and performance. The increased capacities for the N300, X300, and L200 HDD model series illustrate the firm’s efforts to continue offering drives for every consumer storage application from PC, gaming, NAS, and surveillance and video streaming.

The company’s category branding will be displayed on both the drive label and retail packaging to clearly communicate each HDD category’s use case and device application. The color labeling for each HDD is as follows: the N300 in a gold NAS label, X300 in a silver performance label, and both P300 and L200 in a red desktop/laptop PC label.

Availability of these new capacities will start in April 2018.

(1) Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines 1MB as 1,000,000 bytes, 1GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes and 1TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer OS, however, reports storage capacity using powers of two for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and OS, such as Microsoft OS and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
(2) 3.5-inch means the form factor of HDDs. They do not indicate drive’s physical size.
(3) As for ‘Drive Bays Supported’, please contact your solutions provider because the compatibility with the host device will vary based on the system.
(4) Workload is a measure of the data throughout the year, and it is defined as the amount of data written, read or verified by commands from the host system.
