NVMe enables servers to leverage the native parallelism of today’s SSD offerings, reduce overall I/O overhead, and increase bandwidth. NVMe over FC (FC-NVMe) enables NVMe over a FC network fabric, combining the benefits of all-flash SAN storage with NVMe performance over your existing infrastructure.
IBM Corp.‘s FlashSystem A9000 and A9000R Model 425 systems will be shipped with an enhanced grid controller with dual-purposed FC ports. Using a future software upgrade, you will be able to connect these ports with servers using FC, FC-NVMe, or both.
Existing and new FlashSystem A9000R Model 425 systems can be non disruptively upgraded and scaled out with additional grid elements.
FlashSystem A9000 supports FC or iSCSI attachment to following servers:
- System x servers
- Power Systems servers
- Flex System
- BladeCenter
- Power System blades
- Intel and AMD processor-based servers
Planned availability date: March 9, 2018
