Qnap Hybrid Architecture IoT and Edge Computing Solution to Enhance IoT Applications

Utilizing features of AWS cloud

Qnap Systems, Inc. introduced a cost-effective solution that enhances IoT applications by utilizing the features of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud to deliver an hybrid architecture IoT and edge computing solution.

With edge computing and IoT emerging as the next wave of cloud computing, the company has leveraged its hardware and software integration capabilities to incorporate AWS Greengrass as part of its hybrid architecture combining cloud and local devices for an IoT and edge computing solution.

AWS Greengrass is software that allows businesses to run local compute, messaging, data caching, sync, and machine learning (ML) inference capabilities for connected devices in a secure way. With AWS Greengrass, connected devices can run AWS Lambda functions, keep device data in sync, and communicate with other devices securely °V even when not connected to the Internet. AWS Greengrass extends AWS to devices so they can act locally on the data they generate, while still using the cloud for management, analytics, and durable storage. It authenticates and encrypts device data at all points of connection using the security and access management capabilities of AWS IoT Core. This way, data is never exchanged between devices when they communicate with each other and the cloud, without proven identity.

QBoat Sunny is a dedicated single-board IoT mini server to meet demands of various IoT applications and environments. It allows customers to manage and monitor IoT applications, devices, and data for a streamlined and efficient IoT development experience. It can also be used as an edge computing node, and AWS can be extended to on-premises environments with AWS Greengrass installed (*) on QBoat Sunny.

The QIoT Suite Lite is an IoT application for on-premises environments, that leverages AWS Greengrass to provide benefits in an integrated solution. Users can store the massive data generated by IoT applications on company’s NAS for local filtering, and filtered data can be further relayed to AWS for subsequent data analysis to realize a cost-effective and performance IoT application.

NAS requirements:

  • ARM-based NAS: TS-131P, TS-231P, TS-431P, TS-231P2, TS-431P2 with QTS 4.3.4 (or later)

  • x86-based NAS: Any Intel/AMD NAS with at least 1GB RAM and QTS 4.3.0 (or later)

*Relevant developer tools can be installed on QBoat Sunny with an upcoming QTS Lite update.
