It allows Mac Pro (late 2013) users to add one or two extra storage modules inside their Mac, while keeping the factory-installed storage as well (SSD module).

Not many end users know that the SSD (the main storage inside the Mac Pro) are not like traditional HDDs – they have a limited endurance (life expectancy). An SSD can only be used a certain number of times, and the total amount is usually represented by P/E cycles (program/erase). Basically, once you write to your disk enough times to reach the end of the P/E cycles limitation, the disk simply won’t work anymore. You’ll be able to read from it, but not write.

We know that elegance and efficiency are some of the core values of Mac users,” says Michael Feldman, president and CTO, Amfeltec. “Our first AngelShark Carrier Board gives just that: it lets you keep the esthetic appeal of the Mac design intact, while greatly increasing its memory storage capacity. You can also preserve the main SSD storage (which has your OS). By placing the temporary storage folders (like ‘Download’, temporary working files, etc.) on another M.2 SSD module, you extend the lifetime of the original Mac SSD.

A Mac user who bought a computer with some default 128GB storage can add one or two 512GB or 1TB SSD modules, which would increase the internal capacity. The alternative, an external solution, would require casings, cables, and extra carrier boards – the AngelShark doesn’t, which makes it cost-efficient.

The AngelShark carrier board family will go side-by-side with the Squid Carrier board family in the company’s product line of M.2 SSD expansion. None of these products require any drivers; none require bifurcation; and all are transparent to the OS.
