Alibaba Group Holding Assigned Two Patents

De-dupe using SSD controller, protecting data stored on SSD

Data deduplication using solid state drive controller
Alibaba Group Holding Limited, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, has been assigned a patent (9,864,542) developed by Li, Shu, Santa Clara, CA, Li, Yong, Beijing, China, and Niu, Gongbiao, Hangzhou, China, for a “
data deduplication using a solid state drive controller.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A data deduplication method is executed by a controller for a solid state drive, (SSD). The controller receives a signature for a block of data. The controller performs a comparison of the signature and information in a signature library and determines whether or not the signature matches the information. The controller sends a signal that indicates a result of the comparison. If the signature and the information match then the signal has a first value indicating that the block of data is already stored on the SSD, if the signature and the information do not match then the signal has a second value that is different than the first value.

The patent application was filed on May 8, 2017 (15/589,256).

Protecting data stored on solid state drive
Alibaba Group Holding Limited, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, has been assigned a patent (9,852,025) developed by
Li, Shu, Santa Clara, CA, for a “protecting data stored on a solid state drive.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “Disclosed are different types of mechanisms for protecting data stored on a solid state drive or device, (SSD) without erasing that data and/or without physically destroying the SSD. The different types of mechanisms can be used alone or in combination to prevent data stored on the SSD from being retrieved, accessed and/or read) in a usable or understandable form. The mechanisms include erasing logical-to-physical address mapping information, that is also used for error correction coding and interleaving, erasing compression information, erasing encryption keys, and changing the codec used for error correction coding. Each mechanism can be used online with the SSD installed in a computer system/server.

The patent application was filed on March 29, 2016 (15/084,224).
