IBM LTO Ultrium Model 452 delivers an uninitialized M8 data cartridge

IBM M8 media feature will enable ordering of prelabeled, uninitialized LTO M8 cartridges. These cartridges will be ready to be initialized on site as M8 media by using the appropriate tape library firmware on supported tape libraries. Once the cartridge is initialized as M8, capacity will increase by 50%, from 6TB to 9TB.

Product Preview
To coincide with the planned availability date, IBM intends to have TS4500 library firmware available for download with support for uninitialized M8 media. It also intends to add support of uninitialized M8 media to TS2900 tape autoloader and TS4300 tape library firmware by the end of first quarter of 2018.

Key prerequisites
Feature number 5521 is only for use with LTO-8 tape drives with minimum firmware version HB82 in IBM tape libraries that support uninitialized M8 media.
