Showa Denko Starts Shipping 3.5-Inch 1.5-1.8TB PMR Rigid Disk Media
For Toshiba 14TB 9-disk helium HDD with conventional magnetic recording
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 25, 2017 at 2:36 pmShowa Denko K.K. started this month shipment of 3.5-inch hard disk (HD) media for storage capacity of 1.5-1.8TB per platter, which feature the highest storage capacity for this size available on the market.
SDK’s 3.5-inch 1.5-1.8TB HD media have been adopted into Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation’s HDD drive for near-line storage, MG07ACA Series,” to achieve tal storage capacity of 14TB with Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR).
SDK has started supplying its 3.5-inch HD media for this application, using the ninth-generation PMR technology. In 2005, SDK became the world’s first to manufacture and sell PMR-technology-based HD media.
HD media are key components of HDDs, influencing their storage capacity.
