IBM Storage Utility Enables Variable Capacity Usage and Billing

Offerings include FlashSystem 900, Storwize V5030 and V7000.

IBM Storage Utility Offerings deliver variable capacity storage options

IBM Storage Utility offerings include FlashSystem 900, V5030, and V7000 as configured below.

FlashSystem 900 (9843-UF3) are configured fully populated (12 MicroLatency modules).

The following FlashSystem 900 (9843-UF3) utility model configurations are available:

Feature Per module capacity Total
usable capacity
AF3J 3.6TB 36TB
AF3K 8.5TB 85TB

The system must be fully populated with 12 MicroLatency modules, all of the same type/capacity. The total usable capacity listed above is user addressable capacity (physical capacity available after RAID and overprovisioning). FlashSystem 900 delivers always-on, in-line data compression and can provide effective capacity up to 110TB (AF3J) and 220TB (AF3K). User is billed for consumed user addressable capacity.

Included features Description
AF15 FC host interface card
AF19 16Gb FC 4 port host optics
AF1H 1,300W power supply for high line voltage
Optional features Description
AF14 Encryption enablement pack
AF1X Encryption disablement code for specified countries
Feature code varies Power cords
Feature code varies Shipping/handling

Storwize utility models are configured as a single shelf with a complement of 24 disks.

The following IBM Storwize V5030 utility model configurations are available:

Feature Capacity Total capacity
AC76 2TB NL 48TB
AC6A 1.8TB 10,000rpm 43.2TB
AC57 300GB 15,000rpm 7.2TB
ACN2 7.68TB flash 184.3TB
ACN1 3.84TB flash 92.2TB

IBM Storwize V7000 utility models can be configured with the following disks:

Feature Capacity Total capacity
AHG2 2TB NL 48TB
AHF4 1.8TB 10,000rpm 43.2TB
AHE1 300GB 15,000rpm 7.2TB
AHHD 5.36TB flash 368.6TB
AHHC 7.68TB flash 184.3TB

The system must have 24 disks, all of which must have the same type/capacity. Expansions (2076-24F for V7000 and 2078-24F for V5030) are supported, and must be ordered full of the same type and capacity as the controller shelves. There is no support of external data virtualization. IBM Spectrum Virtualize Software for V5030 V8 (PID 5639-SV7) or V7000 V8 (PID 5639-CB8) is used to manage the system, and the optional features under the base software, such as Easy Tier, FlashCopy, and Remote Mirror, are supported. V5030 and V7000 utility model systems support up to 760 disks, total, including controller and fully-populated expansions.

Required software
Storwize V5030 and V7000 utility models require Spectrum Virtualize software version 8.1, or later.

IBM Spectrum Control Storage Insights is used to monitor the system and is required for these IBM Storage Utility Offerings.

The usage data collected by Storage Insights will be used by IBM to determine the actual physical data provisioned in the system. This data will be compared to the base system capacity subscription, and any provisioned capacity beyond that base subscription will be billed per terabyte, per month, on a quarterly basis. The calculated usage is based on the average use over a given month. In a highly variable environment, such as managed or cloud service providers, this enables the system to be utilized only as much as is necessary during any given month. Capacity usage may increase or decrease, and will be billed accordingly.

Planned availability dates:

  • December 8, 2017: V7000 Model U7A and IBM Storwize V5030 Model U5A
  • November 24, 2017: FlashSystem 900 Model 9843-UF3
