Flash-IO Talyn NVMe Over Fabrics Storage Solution From Boston Limited

Using Excelero's NVMesh server SAN software, RoCE v2 and 100Gbit/s EDR IB or 100GbE from Mellanox's Connect-X 5 range

Boston Limited showcased the Flash-IO Talyn, a NVMe over Fabrics solution, at Broadcast India in Mumbai.

Bringing together the latest technology from Mellanox Technologies, Ltd., Micron Technology, Inc. and Super Micro Computer, Inc., the company has partnered with Excelero, Inc. to provide a scalable NVMe over Fabrics storage solution using Excelero’s NVMesh server SAN software and adds another piece to the vision of the software-defined data centre.

The Flash-IO Talyn solution solves one of the biggest challenges in computing today – shared access to NVMe flash storage volumes at the low latency and high-performance required by GPU-based applications, yet with minimum processor overhead. Employing Excelero’s server SAN along with other technologies such as RoCE v2 and 100Gb/s EDR IB or 100GbE from Mellanox’s Connect-X 5 range, processor overhead and latency is kept low, whilst bandwidth is plentiful.

NVMesh is a software-defined block storage solution that features Elastic NVMe, a distributed block layer that allows unmodified applications to utilise pooled NVMe storage devices across a network at local speeds and latencies. Distributed NVMe storage resources are pooled with the ability to create arbitrary, dynamic block volumes that can be utilised by any host running the NVMesh block client. These virtual volumes can be striped, mirrored or both, while enjoying centralised management, monitoring and administration.

Manoj Nayee, MD, Boston Ltd., says: “In the fast-paced broadcast industry, technology needs to be meeting and surpassing requirements, there is a need to transform storage architectures to deal with big data analytics, GPU rendering workloads and much more. These applications have a big impact on storage workloads, all of them requiring significant transformation to storage architectures; the Boston Flash-IO Talyn meets the requirements of these new application workloads.

New GPU-based application workloads are driving the need for new storage architectures, and we’re delighted to partner with Boston to enable this in the Boston Flash-IO Talyn Server,” adds Lior Gal, CEO and co-founder, Excelero. “We’re proud to work alongside the leading technologies from Mellanox, Micron and Supermicro so that Boston Limited customers have access to shared primary storage with efficiencies akin to those of the most efficient data centres.
