FuseFX Picks Qumulo and Rozo Systems

For file storage in media and entertainment

FuseFX, a special effects studio, has selected two file storage players to address their needs.

The company has chosen to deploy Qumulo, Inc. and Rozo Systems SAS in addition to their Dell EMC Isilon solutions.

So far only Rozo has published a case study about FuseFX, we don’t find any reference on Qumulo customers page.

But both players mentioned a quote from the same leader, Jason Fotter, co-founder and CTO, FuseFX.

  • On Rozo’s site, Fotter, says: “The Rozo solution is disruptive for the storage industry. In the traditional model, fast is expensive. With Rozo, you can build a cost-effective hardware configuration at a performance that competitors can’t offer even on more expensive hardware.”
  • And on Qumulo, he says: “We are building a fully orchestrated visual effects rendering solution that spans our on-premises data center and AWS. We now have a QF2 cluster on AWS and in our data center creating a unified fabric that enables us to share file data between these two operating environments, maintain workflow consistency, and meet the high performance requirements for heavy compute workloads in the cloud.”

It clearly seems that FuseFX considers both products for different usages, at least at the beginning:

  • Qumulo is deployed with two clusters one on-premises and one on AWS bridged by the continuous replication provided by QF2.
  • Rozo was considered for fast tier 2 able to continue operation in case Isilon or Qumulo clusters fail, especially protecting three critical tier 1 production systems. But FuseFX discovered that Rozo delivers better performance with advanced protection and effective cost than their tier 1 solutions so the team started to think of redeploying it for tier 1 needs.
