IBM TS1155 Tape Drive for TS3500 Libraries
Up to 15TB native capacity and enabling reuse of existing JD media
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 16, 2017 at 2:33 pmIBM TS1155 Tape Drive Model 55G is designed for the TS3500 tape library and delivers a 50% increase in capacity on JD media types when compared to its predecessors.
TS1155 Model 55G delivers a native data rate of 360MB/s, the same load/ready, locate speeds, and access times as the TS1150, and includes dual-port 8Gb FC support.
It is capable to read and write 15TB capacities on existing JD media types (JD/JZ/JL) compared to 10TB for TS1150. TS1155 tape rives also support JC 4TB format (read only) and JC 7TB format (R/W). Media written in TS1155 format is not readable by TS1150, but is back-portable for reformatting the TS1150 format of 10TB.
Model conversions are also supported to convert TS1150 Model E08 to TS1155 Model 55G.
TS1155 tape drives are not compatible with IBM TS7700 or Enterprise Tape Control Unit environments.
It also supports drive-based data encryption to help protect data. The TS1155-based encryption and associated IBM Security Key Lifecycle Manager components are supported in a range of environments, including select IBM Power Systems, IBM System i, IBM System p, IBM System x, and other servers running AIX, Linux, Oracl Solaris, and Microsoft Windows OSs.
