IBM 7226 Model 1U3 Multi-Media Enclosure With LTO-8

This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 16, 2017 at 2:31 pmIBM 7226 Model 1U3 Multi-Media Enclosure delivers external tape, removable disk drive, and DVD-RAM drive options intended to enable the storage, retrieval, and archival of critical business, technical, and scientific data in computer hardware facilities. The 7226 offers a list of drive feature options.
It can accommodate up to two tape drives, two RDX removable disk drive docking stations, or up to four DVD-RAM drives.
Model 1U3 attaches to most IBM POWER6, POWER7, POWER8, IBM PureFlex systems, IBM POWER, and BladeCenters, and to systems running Linux and Microsoft Windows.
The following LTO tape drive, DVD-RAM drive, and RDX removable storage device features are supported on the 7226:
- Tape drive features: Half-high LTO-5 (HHLTO5), Half-high LTO-6 (HHLTO6), HHLTO-7, and HHLTO-8 tape drives with SAS and FC interface options.
- DVD-RAM features: DVD-RAM drives with SATA/SAS and USB electronic interface options.
- RDX3 removable disk drive features: Removable HDD capacity options include a 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB, and attach to any available USB3 internal port.
These SAS, FC, and USB device features may be installed in the IBM 7226 dual-bay storage enclosure in any combination, and are supported on IBM POWER AIX, IBM i, and Linux operation systems. The 7226 is also compatible with most OEM OSs running Linux or Microsoft Windows.

IBM 7226 Multi-Media Enclosure is compatible with most IBM POWER6, POWER7, and POWER8 systems, as well as IBM BladeCenter models (PS700, PS701, PS702, PS703, and PS704) and IBM PureFlex systems that offer current level AIX, IBMi, and LINUX OSs.
System support of IBM 7226 features
- IBM POWER Systems support all SAS, USB, and FC tape drives, DVD-RAM, and RDX removable drive features on the 7226.
- IBM BladeCenters support DAT160, HHLTO-5, HHLTO-6, HHLTO-7, and HHLTO-8 SAS tape drive features, and also support attachment of RDX removable drive features on the 7226. BladeCenters do not support DVD-RAM device or LTO FC tape drive attachment.
- IBM PureFlex systems support attachment of HHLTO-5, HHLTO-6, HHLTO-7, and HHLTO-8 FC tape drive features, DVD-RAM USB drive features, and RDX removable drive features. PureFlex systems do not support SAS tape drives and DVD-RAM devices.
