Spanning Extended SaaS Data Protection Service
Including SharePoint Online
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 28, 2017 at 2:20 pmSpanning Cloud Apps LLC, provider of SaaS data protection, extended its enterprise-grade Office 365 data protection solution to SharePoint Online data.
With support for SharePoint Online, Backup for Office 365 better meets the needs of customers utilizing Microsoft’s SaaS collaboration offering. Daily automated and on-demand backup and rapid restore for SharePoint Online is available.
According to a recent research report, 66% of all SharePoint licenses in 2017 include the use of SharePoint Online and that number is expected to grow to 89% by 2020. This is mirrored by the projected decline in SharePoint on-premises licenses from 46% in 2017 to 16% by 2020. This shift in adoption of SharePoint Online is fueling demand for third-party data protection as companies increasingly realize that they are responsible for protecting their business-critical content from data loss events caused by threats such as ransomware and human error.
In the past 12 months, Backup for Office 365 revenue has more than tripled, driven by an increase in market demand, success in enterprise sales and service expansion across Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Spanning has backed up more than 4 billion objects of critical Office 365 data.
“Moving to the cloud provides organizations with many benefits, including improved collaboration capabilities, reduced costs and increased security – but it is not without risks,” said Jeff Erramouspe, CEO, Spanning. “SharePoint Online is a vital tool for collaboration across enterprise teams and encompasses sensitive internal data. By extending Spanning’s key benefits to SharePoint Online, we’re protecting the data that’s the most critical-and relevant-to the enterprise.”
“As a busy organization using Office 365, we have quickly adapted to changes in the platform, including the addition of new functionality and applications, such as SharePoint Online,” said Robin Berumen, VP, information technology, American Realty Advisors (ARA). “As a Spanning customer, we are confident that our Office 365 data, including SharePoint, is protected and can be easily restored with Spanning Backup for Office 365.”
Like all cloud applications, SharePoint Online data is at risk of corruption, accidental or malicious deletion or other data loss events. Additionally, itss complexity makes its data difficult or impossible to recover once lost.
In a recent report, Gartner recommended: “Investment in a third-party backup tool for OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online to provide more-secure protection against insider threats and offer consistent recovery points for easier, faster and more flexible recovery options.”
With the addition of data protection for SharePoint Online, Backup for Office 365 customers now receive backup and restore capabilities for SharePoint Online content including automated, point-in-time backup snapshots of document library contents in Team Sites, Group sites and Microsoft Teams. Backup for Office 365 also protects OneDrive for Business, Mail, and Calendar. By incorporating Backup for Office 365 into their security programs, IT admins can ensure corporate data is protected and is recoverable from inevitable data loss events, reducing operational downtime and maintaining compliance with internal and external audit requirements for BC.
Spanning Backup for SharePoint Online is available to new and existing customers who meet the licensing criteria and is included in the per-user per-year pricing.
