Crystal Group and Intel Partnering

To accelerate data-handling infrastructures with 2nd gen 3D NAND SSD

Crystal Group, Inc., designer and manufacturer of rugged computer hardware, and Intel Corp. are partnering to accelerate data-handling infrastructures everywhere with 2nd gen Intel 3D NAND SSD technology in Crystal Group rugged and reliable server, workstation, and storage systems.

To help meet growing data demands and ensure fast, reliable access to critical information, Crystal Group is pairing its high-performance hardware with Intel’s new Solid State Drive Data Center (SSD DC) family for data centers in all sizes and environments, including fixed-site, remote, and mobile applications across aerospace, defense/military, industrial, and commercial markets.

Crystal Group products have been integral to a variety of mission-critical and HA data center modernization projects, ranging from remote power stations to shelters on ground combat vehicles to shipboard networks.

These same rugged and reliable systems are available with the SSD DC SSDs with high-density 2nd gen Intel 3D NAND technology, including the new P4500, P4600, S4500, and S4600 series.

NVMe host controller interface/storage protocol
NVMe brings data directly to Intel Xeon processors to achieve fast IO/s, increasing performance and reducing latency for near-real-time results, and enhances reliability with power-loss detection and soft-error mitigation.

The Intel Volume Management Device (VMD) integrated performance accelerator provides ‘hot plug’ capability to help minimize interruptions during drive swaps and maximize uptime and serviceability. P4500 and P4600 Series SSDs are now available in half-height/half-length add-in card and U.2 2.5-inch form factors in 1TB, 1.6TB, 2TB, 3.2TB, and 4TB capacities.

The SSD DC S4500 and S4600 series help to preserve legacy infrastructure while speeding and streamlining the transition, in whole or part, from HDDs to SSDs.

The move to Crystal Group hardware with SSDs brings greater storage capacity and speeds, increased stability and ruggedness, reduced power consumption and heat dissipation, critical redundancy and failover protection, and enhanced MTBF compared to HDDs.

For more than a decade, Crystal Group’s singular focus has been on delivering robust, responsive, rugged and reliable systems engineered to last, even in the most demanding applications and environments. That’s why the new Intel SSD Data Center Family – engineered specifically for performance, reliability, and endurance – is the perfect addition to Crystal Group’s portfolio of proven, capable solutions,” says Chip Thurston, technical director and chief architect, Crystal Group in Hiawatha, IO.

Crystal Group’s line of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-engineered rugged server, embedded computer, and rugged storage solutions are available with Intel’s in storage and processing technologies, including the SSD DC Family and Xeon Scalable Processors.
