Qnap QIoT Suite Lite Enables Hybrid Cloud Solutions for IoT
Employs secure computing and private storage provided by NAS.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 8, 2017 at 2:16 pmQnap Systems, Inc. is an active participant in IoT, and officially released its private IoT cloud platform – QIoT Suite Lite that employs the secure computing and private storage provided by the company’s NAS and facilitates hybrid-cloud IoT solutions to maximize benefits from both private and public clouds.
The QIoT service strategy focuses more on collaboration with system integrators, assisting organizations in capturing the maximum digital value for greater business potential of IoT.
Teddy Kuo, chairman, Qnap, stated: “Our QIoT vision is for industries, academics, and makers to explore the values of IoT big data and help them to increase efficiency and quality in professional and personal environments, allowing people to enjoy secure and cost-effective IoT outcomes with minimal financial investment.”
Since 2017, the company has teamed up with Webduino to implement a QIoT solution for the Taoyuan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, Taiwan. Analytical suggestions for farming schedules and remote monitoring are made easy, providing advanced methods for farming operations and management. While QIoT Suite Lite collects and stores on-site data (e.g. humidity, temperature, pH levels) from smart sensors, farmers can remotely receive real-time information using computers and mobile devices, allowing them to react to changes instantly, and save time and manpower needed to check on-site conditions. QIoT empowers IoT farm applications to help farmers solve problems and upgrade management along with the relatively affordable deployment and lower skill requirements.
QIoT Suite Lite features a flexible architecture and integrates multiple third-party services. For example, it supports (but is not limited to) development boards and starter kits including Arduino Yun, Raspberry Pi, and Intel Corp.‘ Edison for easier deployment; it shares via API to push the collected device data stored on the company’s NAS to other dashboards such as Microsoft Corp.‘ Power BI for further data analysis and management flexibility; specific NAS models support AWS Greengrass to leverage Amazon cloud computing. Combing joint benefits from private and public clouds, QIoT Suite Lite allows for greater flexibility in applications to assist system integrators in approaching IoT use cases as diverse as possible with affordability.
QIoT Suite Lite can also address more advanced IoT use cases such as Fog Computing, in which multiple firm’s NAS work as Fog or Edge Nodes in a hierarchical manner addressing the scale and distribution of control required by Fog Computing.
QIoT solutions have shown presentation at IoT Tech Expo Global 2017 and CeBIT 2017.
The company also actively promotes IoT real practices by hosting a the company’s Hackathon Challenges for smart cities at Secutech Taipei 2017 and a series of QIoT hands-on workshops, in an attempt to inspire people to realize the limitless IoT possibilities with the firm’s NAS.
QIoT Suite Lite v1.0 is available from the QTS App Center.
