Toshiba NVMe SSDs for Lenovo ThinkSystem and ThinkAgile Servers

PX04P series up to 3.84TB

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) announces its collaboration with Lenovo Enterprise Solutions, Pte Ltd to integrate its PX04P Series of NVMe) (1) SSDs with Lenovo’s new ThinkSystem and ThinkAgile servers (2) to drive high performance and endurance while giving customers flexible storage and data center infrastructure options.

ThinkSystem servers aim to expand traditional data center infrastructure to enable hyperscale and HPC deployments, and ThinkAgile focuses on software-defined deployments.

The PX04P Series is available in AIC and 2.5″ form factors (3) each with x4 PCIe Gen3. Offered in capacities up to 3.84TB (4), it boasts endurance rates up to 10DWPD (5). Used in storage systems from Lenovo, the PX04P performs in various high performance IO and varied workload levels. The PX04P functions at high performance efficiency, with 660,000 RR IO/s (6) at 18.5W maximum.

Lenovo is committed to advancing the data center experience and providing our customers flexibility and agility to scale as workloads change,” said Kamran Amini, GM, server and storage system business unit, Lenovo. “By integrating our new ThinkSystem and ThinkAgile portfolios with Toshiba’s enterprise NVMe SSDs, this collaboration allows customers both reliability and efficiency needed for better business outcomes.

IDC market reports (7) identified Toshiba as the fastest growing vendor for 2016 in the $17 billion SSD segment (8).

“The PX04P enterprise NVMe family combines high performance with a highly efficient power profile,” said Jeremy Werner, VP, SSD marketing and product planning, Toshiba America Electronic Components. “Toshiba’s SSDs are vertically integrated, and designed to deliver quality with reliability required by data centers. Our collaboration with Lenovo provides flexible storage for multiple, demanding workloads.”

The PX04P Series SSDs are available.

(1) NVMe and NVM Express are trademarks of NVM Express, Inc.
(2) Lenovo, ThinkSystem and ThinkAgile are trademarks or registered trademarks of Lenovo.
(3) 2.5-inch means the form factor of HDDs or SSDs. They do not indicate drive’s physical size.
(4) Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines 1MB as 1,000,000 bytes, 1GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes and 1TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer OS, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1TB = 240 bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and OS, such as Microsoft OS and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
(5) Drive Write Per Day. One full drive write per day means the drive can be written and re-written to full capacity once a day every day for five years, the stated product warranty period. Actual results may vary due to system configuration, usage and other factors.
(6) Input Output Per Second (or the number of I/O operations per second)
(7) Worldwide Solid State Storage Quarterly Update, CY 4Q16 (Feb 2017 – Doc #US41259317)
(8) Fastest growing vendor as measured by revenue, based on IDC Worldwide Solid State Storage Quarterly Update: 4Q16 Summary (Feb 2017 IDC Doc #US41259317) and IDC Worldwide 4Q16 HDD Shipment Results and Four-Quarter Forecast Update (Feb 2017 – Doc #US42306617). 2015 revenue and unit baseline includes separate results from companies merged with non-affiliate third-party companies in 2016.
