Tuxera Acquires A1 Dev, Boosting Expertise Within Android Ecosystem

Getting database of 4 million flash storage performance test results

Tuxera, Inc., in file systems and networking technology market, acquired A1 Devhttp://a1dev.com, developer of an A1 SD benchmarking application for Android devices.

Following the acquisition, Tuxera will obtain A1 Dev’s assets, including the database of more than 4 million flash storage performance test results. With this data, Tuxera will continue to expand its knowledge and competence in embedded flash storage under real-life performance, reliability, and lifetime tests.

The team behind A1 SD has done an outstanding job in building the app and service with thousands of unique daily downloads. They have collected more than 4 million entries over the years, detailing internal flash storage and memory card performance results. This acquisition represents a deep dive into long-term statistics and trends covering different memory and storage software technologies,” says Mikko Välimäki, CEO of Tuxera.

We are very excited about the acquisition. Creating A1 SD bench and seeing it grow so rapidly has been a great experience for our team. We know that Tuxera will continue improving the service and will expand its value not just to the users but also to Android device manufacturers globally,” said Maris Bormanis, CEO of Febooti, Ltd., a privately-held company, based in Latvia, and the lead developer of A1 Dev.

Founded in 2012, A1 Dev has built a growing flash storage benchmarking service for Android devices called A1 SD bench. The app boasts over 1 million installations, all of which were gained organically.

Tuxera will continue developing and improving the A1 SD bench application, adding new functionality and expanding the benchmarking features of the service.

The acquisition supports Tuxera’s goal to bring faster, more reliable, and longer lasting storage technologies to Android manufacturers by providing software innovation – which in turn may lead to more efficient and affordable flash storage.

According to Gartner, in 2016, nearly 1.5 billion smartphones were sold globally, 84.8% of which were running Android.

Tuxera’s customers include some leading global smartphone manufacturers, and it’s hardware-optimized software powers hundreds of millions of devices.
