Chelsio Supporting Apple macOS Sierra

Across Terminator 5 and Terminator 6-based line of networking ASIC and adapter solutions

Chelsio Communications, Inc., provider of Ethernet adapters and ASICs for storage networking, virtualized enterprise datacenters, cloud service installations, and cluster computing environments, confirmed its commitment to Apple technology by announcing driver support for Sierra, the latest release of the macOS, which brings enhanced usability, performance and security across its Terminator 5 (T5) and Terminator 6 (T6)-based line of networking ASIC and adapter solutions.

This announcement makes Chelsio a connectivity provider with a range of 1/10/25/40/50/100GbE storage and network connectivity solutions to support Apple’s macOS Sierra.

The Chelsio driver, which supports macOS v10.12 and above, is available from the company and its distributors. It provides support for stateless offload operation, including Jumbo Frames, Transmit/Receive checksum offload, TCP Segmentation Offload (TSO/LSO), Large Segment Offload (LSO) and Large Receive Offload (LRO).

With more than 17 years of experience in powering applications, Chelsio’s network and storage connectivity products address all aspects of media production and support each step in the process, from content creation to delivery. macOS has long been a platform of choice for creative professionals and applications such as 4K digital video production and editing. While sparking the imagination of the high-end creative professionals, it also brings challenges including expanded file sizes, project complexity and storage footprint. Chelsio 10/40GbE networking solutions are a fit for audio and video workflows for 4K HD production.

Connectivity for Mac Pro and MacBook Pro systems to network and storage infrastructures is enabled via T5 10/40GbE and T6 1/10/25/40/50/100GbE offering. Previous generations of the Mac Pro, which will be upgrading to OS X Sierra, can utilize Chelsio’s full product offering to leverage the new performance capabilities.

We are gratified that Chelsio has released its driver for macOS Sierra, which will enable higher-performance 100GbE Ethernet connectivity for high definition 4k video applications,” said Andy Liebman, CEO, EditShare, LLC, maker of EFS, the clustered scale-out file system for media and entertainment. “Support for Apple OS updates recognizes the need to keep pace with the latest technology for high-performance media production workflows.

The macOS Sierra OS sets a new bar for Apple OS performance and complements why users select Chelsio networking solutions,” said Rajeev Sharma, senior product manager, Chelsio. “As Apple extends the boundaries of macOS functionality, Chelsio will continue to provide industry leading networking products that optimize performance and compatibility.
