The PCIe Extender storage system is a one product allowing PCIe bus expansion from a host server.

The extender provides five PCIe expansion slots in an external 3U rackmount also containing 16 hot-swap SAS/SATA disk drive bays and a SAS expander. Plugging a PCIe SAS RAID controller into one of the extender slots builds a RAID storage system. Other slots may be used as needed for other peripherals.

Each PCIe extender RAID has a PCIe 2.0 x8 port for the host connection, plus five internal PCIe 2.0 expansion slots, all x16 physically and x8 electrically, to support installation of five PCIe peripheral cards, up to full-height and full-length. The PCIe expansion slots are ‘double spaced’ to accommodate installation of ‘double wide’ cards, which include many current powerful GPUs.

The product is provided with a PCIe 2.0 host adapter card for installation in the host work station or server, and an external PCIe 2.0 cable (standard length 2m). The PCIe extender also features N+1 hot-swappable cooling elements with centrifugal blowers mounted in noise and vibration-dampening resin modules and N+1 hot-swappable power supplies which are all interchangeable with the BlueStor SAS Expander and PeSAN RAID rackmounts for simplified, low-cost spares programs.

All BlueStor rackmounts are SES 2.0 compliant and have been compatibility confirmed with every SAS and SATA-2/3 (3.5″ form factor) disk drive on the market.

Five-Slot PCIe x8 Extender

The 5 Slot x8 PCIe Extender is ideal for adding multiple PCIe peripherals to existing system. It extends host server’s PCIe bus outside the server, providing additional slots for any application.

The five PCIe x16 slots (x8 electrically) are all full-length,full-height and double spaced to accommodate double-wide GPUs and other peripherals normally occupying the space of two slots, and may be used for any PCIe compatible cards including GPUs, capture cards, HBAs, RAID controllers, NICs and other devices.

16-drive bay SAS Expander/JBOD/RAID

The BlueStor model SASS-JD-G3-6-R is a lighter-weight, lower-cost version of BlueStor SAS expander/RAID model, now in its third generation.

This capacity storage unit has sixteen hot-swappable SAS/SATA drive bays with dual internal 6Gb SAS expanders to accommodate 3.5″ HDDs (adapters for 2.5″ SSDs optional) providing up to 160TB native disk storage capacity (up to 64 TB using SSDs). The unit offers fast performance: >1,700MB/s using sixteen SATA-3 7,200rpm disk drives; up to 3,000MB/s using SSDs (sequential file transfers).

Consuming only 430VA maximum line power when fully operational, weighing 28lbs without drives installed (52lbs with all disk drives installed) and quiet as a mouse, this is a storage expansion unit for the lab, machine room or mobile production cart, and a compliment to the Lightning/Thunderbolt workstations (as shown above with LTNG-XQ-8) having internal RAID controllers, when more storage is needed.
