NAB: Object Matrix Simplified Content Sharing

Object Matrix Ltd, a provider of data storage to the media and entertainment industries, will be launching an integration with Adobe XMP at NAB.

Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) is a file labeling technology that lets users embed metadata into files themselves during the content creation process. The XMP format was created by Adobe to standardize how metadata is stored and transferred and is commonly used by various media outlets. XMP enables users to create smart assets that retain their context when traveling across software, devices, and databases. It also enables the provision of full extensibility by adding arbitrary metadata to media in turn extending the level of search and retrieval available. The format also boasts the benefit of being able to manage the relationships of assets throughout their lifecycle helping with the future proofing of media.

The integration of XMP benefits the existing PiP (Processing in Place) storage system with MatrixStore by increasing the efficiency of Adobe archive and share workflows. PiP streamlines the processes for sharing content across local or global teams. It does this by extracting metadata from ingested assets making it available for search via its fast and powerful distributed database. The metadata is available via an API, sharing metadata with technology partner’s applications. By using local CPUs to process archived content there is no need to move PNs of data in and out to perform post-processing. This all provides a flexible, scalable framework that allows advanced data analytics and post processing algorithms to be carried out.

Once the XMP content has been indexed by PiP it can be found, browsed and shared using the Vision web interface from Object Matrix or any application integrated with the MatrixStore API. Other formats supported by PiP include AS11, AS10 and Exif.

Object Matrix will be demonstrating its MatrixStore at the NAB Show, from April 22 tot 27.

Since early 2012, XMP is also an ISO standard.
