Klas Telecom and Nutanix to Provide Solutions for Tactical Market

Through partnership for government and military operations

Klas Telecom, Inc., an engineering and design company that specializes in developing low size, weight and power (SWaP) solutions for network-edge environments, announced it is partnering with Nutanix, Inc. for government and military operations.

The two companies will bring together their platforms and offer them to the tactical market where SWaP, ease of use, and cost concerns are critical. Klas Telecom’s purpose-built Voyager deployable networking systems are ruggedized to military standards, provide high volumes of capability in modular, scalable, and lightweight packages, and are approved for use on the Defense Information Systems Agency Approved Products List (DISA APL). The Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform delivers software-driven compute, virtualization, networking and storage resources to run nearly any application in a turnkey hyper-converged infrastructure solution that reduces complexity, lowers virtualization costs and simplifies management.

Over the past few months, Klas Telecom’s engineering team has worked with its Nutanix counterparts to certify the Voyager system to run the Enterprise Cloud Platform. Together, the two products provide a platform that allow data center operations to be carried out on the battlefield in an easier way. The Voyager tactical data centers are systems to deploy enterprise-grade storage and compute, along with 10Gb/s network switching, to the battlefield in a single, airline carry-on-size case, simplifying logistics and lowering costs.

With these portable systems, large volumes of data can be locally accessed, processed, stored, replicated and disseminated without having to rely on bandwidth-constrained backhaul.

This type of capability would normally require truckloads of equipment that are difficult to transport and are cumbersome to deploy, set up and maintain,” Klas Telecom Government president and CEO David Huisenga said. “Our joint Klas/Nutanix tactical data center solutions will drastically reduce the logistics, SWaP and cost of deploying such capability in theatre. In a time where the military wants to do more with less, we think this partnership will aid our customers in their mission.

Klas Telecom says that it has seen an increase in desire among government and military operators to bring their data forward of disadvantage links in order to be independent of SATCOM availability. The company also reports that the ability to ‘bring your data with you’ is becoming a popular trend in tactical communications and this joint solution between the to firms is meant to answer the demand.

The trend in the tactical communications market to reduce logistics footprint, cost, and simplify deployments requires a new generation of software-driven solutions,” said Chris Howard, VP, federal sales, Nutanix. “Our partnership with Klas Telecom will extend Nutanix’s already strong presence in the U.S. government and help our joint customers rapidly deploy IT resources on demand, wherever they are needed.
