Seagate lays off 155 employees in Shakopee
Seagate Technology laid off 155 Shakopee employees in early December due to a reduced demand for the company’s HDD productions, according to a company spokeswoman. Lori Johnson, senior manager of communications for Seagate in Shakopee, said the employees were notified of the layoffs on December 6. Some of the employees who were laid off left the day they received their notices, while some are still completing their time with the company. The layoffs occurred in the R&D department, Johnson said. On June 29, 34 employees at the Shakopee office were laid off, according to Johnson. Seagate now employs a total of about 775 people at its Shakopee office, down from more than 1,000 earlier this year.
