Macronix QSPI NOR Flash Memory Selected by STMicroelectronics

512Mb quad-SPI flash memory on STM32F767/769 microcontroller (MCU) discovery kit

Macronix International Co., Ltd., an integrated device manufacturer of Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) products, announced STMicroelectronics, Inc. has adopted its solution and used its flash memory products in ST’s STM32F767/769 micro-controllers Discovery Kit board with memory, graphics and communication peripherals.

Macronix’s Quad-SPI Flash memory MX25L51245G provides high read bandwidth to enable faster access times in performing embedded systems. The MX25L51245G Quad SPI NOR flash memory leverages a 166MHz Single Data Rate (SDR) mode or 100MHz Double Transfer Rate (DTR) mode to deliver a read bandwidth of up to 100MB/s that enables fast program execution. Available in industry-standard compact 8-land WSON, 16-pin SOP, and 24-ball BGA packages, the device saves board space and simplifies layout. The device provides a 0.25ms 256-bytes-page program time or 0.16ms in factory-mode, increasing manufacturing throughput and enabling new data to be written quickly. MX25L51245G is manufactured on 55nm technology node with 10-year Macronix product longevity program.

STM32F767/769 micro-controllers (MCUs) bring ARM Cortex -M7 processing power and efficiency to a range of applications, including portable or wearable consumer devices, smart-building and industrial controllers, smart appliances, and personal or point-of-care medical equipment. It features 512KB of integrated RAM, as well a 16KB data and instruction caches, while the Flexible Memory Controller (FMC) and Quad-SPI interface simplify off-chip memory expansion allowing practically unlimited application code size.

Finding a memory solution that allows the STM32F7 and our complete ecosystem to show off the full range of its exceptional performance and features is key to the success of our industry-leading family of MCUs and particularly to the highest-performance F7 series,” said Renaud  Bouzereau, MCU marketing manager, STMicroelectronics. “Macronix’s Quad- SPI flash memory solution enabled our designers to operate the STM32 MCUs to their full capability.

We’re pleased to expand our partnership with STMicroelectronics to see our products used for such a compelling device,” said Macronix VP marketing, F.L. Ni, and that: “Our Quad-SPI flash memory NOR flash device has small footprint that is ideal for space-constrained smart appliances/devices, and it is optimized for high-performance applications.
