The Ability 84-bay EBOD also includes the capability to accommodate HGST Ultrastar SSDs as a hot tier shared across 12Gb SAS active nodes to leverage smart storage tiering for both structured and unstructured data in a HA design. RAID has designed the Ability EBOD series to be zoned with up to four different DAS hosts or four different zones for performance or security as needed.

This storage enclosure comes standard with dual I/O modules for resiliency each with four host ports at a total of eight 12Gb SAS ports for performance and HA applications, capable of handling over 32GB/s.

Scale-Up architecture resiliency: The Ability end-to-end 12Gb SAS enterprise JBOD provides a scalability resource to various existing file system nodes along with green-field deployments of Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016. For added data integrity and resiliency the Ability 84-bay is an EBOD achieving a certification for enclosure awareness on the Microsoft Storage Spaces platform. The enclosure awareness feature allows for resilient levels thus combating the risk of multiple drive or enclosure failures.
