Atlantis Computing With Citrix-Integrated Software

Partnering with Rancher Labs to preview single platform for orchestrating storage and delivering containerised applications

Atlantis Computing, Inc. is helping eliminate IT operational complexity, one of the main barriers to virtual workspace adoption, by launching the integration of workspace infrastructure into the Citrix Systems, Inc.‘management suite.

By combining applications, management and infrastructure into a single workspace platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solution, the company makes it for any-sized enterprise to deploy and manage virtual workspaces at a lower cost.

Bringing enterprise data services to containers
Additionally, the firm identified similar challenges between managing workspaces and containers based on customer feedback. With this in mind, the company is teaming with Rancher Labs to deliver a automated, software-based solution: a single platform that provides a rich set of data services, provisioning and management of compute, storage and containers.

The convenience of containers for rapid creation of web applications and microservices are offset by the need for storage that lasts beyond the typical container lifespan. Persistent storage and data management tools are critical for enterprise applications. The company is addressing this with plans to extend its unified software-defined storage platform to deploy and manage containerised applications and microservices together with enterprise data services for any on-premises or cloud-based environment.

Businesses require software-driven infrastructure that automatically tailors itself to the application to compete and thrive,” said Chetan Venkatesh, CEO and president, Atlantis. “The workspace today is too much of a jigsaw puzzle of multiple tools and processes in separate IT silos. By folding Atlantis into the Citrix platform and delivering a vision for workspace PaaS, we’re simplifying adoption of virtual desktops and providing cloud-based deployment management and operations that behaves more like a Docker container than a VM.

Delivering user Experience with workspace capabilities
By integrating Citrix management and automation capabilities with its platform, the company will improve the end-user experience with new workspace capabilities including single-pane management that provides automated, dynamic workspace provisioning, monitoring and analytics-based reporting. Customers can seamlessly extend workspace management to public clouds with integration of Microsoft Azure. They also have the flexibility of deploying the new workspace infrastructure platform in either firm’s USX SDS or HyperScale appliance configurations to match their business requirements.

Midsized and large enterprises often have complex infrastructure deployments that can be challenging to protect and manage from end-to-end,” said Calvin Hsu, VP, product marketing, workspace services, Citrix. “The integration that Atlantis has done with Citrix provides on-demand delivery of virtual workspaces that will be easy to adopt and deploy anywhere, even in public clouds.

“Atlantis and Rancher share the belief that applications should be truly portable between multiple clouds, without sacrificing performance or overwhelming users with point products,” said Shannon Williams, co-founder and VP, sales and marketing, Rancher Labs. “By building a single platform to manage infrastructure and containers, together we’re able to offer a fully-automated platform to support containers-as-a-service for enterprises embracing DevOps and faster software development.

The power of workspace data services with a container strategy is very powerful – I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself,” said Scott D. Lowe, co-founder and principal analyst, ActualTech Media LLC. “By integrating storage services into one tool that’s used to manage data and applications within containers, enterprises can easily transition to hybrid or public clouds and combine VDI and container management.

The company’s workspace solutions integrated with Citrix Desktop Director will be available worldwide from firm’s resellers in November 2016, with support for Citrix Lifecycle Manager and Studio available in subsequent releases.
