SAP Assigned Three Patents

Encryption scheme in shared data store, partial merge, allocation strategies for storage applications

Encryption scheme in shared data store
SAP SE, Walldorf, Germany, has been assigned a patent (9,467,282) developed by
Kremp, Juergen, Walldorf, Germany, Kiefer, Klaus, Heidelberg, Germany, and Bauer, Uwe, Weinsberg, Germany, for a “encryption scheme in a shared data store.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “An improved key encryption system is provided for encrypting sensitive data on a shared data store. Various embodiments contemplate a system where a plurality of data clients are connected to one or more shared data stores. A secure data storage facility is provided on one or more of the shared data stores by using an encryption scheme. Encryption keys for decrypting the sensitive data are stored on the same data store as sensitive data, which may be decrypted using the encryption keys. To provide another layer of security, the data encryption keys are themselves encrypted using a key encryption key, ‘KEK’, which is generated by, and stored in a local data store associated with the data clients.

The patent application was filed on June 25, 2015 (14/750,791).

Partial merge
SAP SE, Walldorf, Germany, has been assigned a patent (
9,465,829) developed by Faerber, Franz, Walldorf, Germany, Lee, Juchang, Seoul, Korea, and Schreter, Ivan, Malsch, Germany, for a “partial merge.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A multi-level storage architecture and method of performing a partial merge are disclosed. A main store is partitioned into a passive main part and an active main part, the active main part being empty at a start of the partial merge, the passive main part storing encoded data records of the main store that are not subject to the partial merge. A values index corresponding to a sorted dictionary of the passive main part is set to a cardinality of n. The data records of a second level storage structure is merged into the active main part, the active main part having a dictionary that starts with a value of n+1, such that the merging into the active main part continues an encoding scheme according to the values index of the passive main part.

The patent application was filed on March 15, 2013 (13/843,841).

Allocation strategies for data storage applications
SAP SE, Walldorf, Germany, has been assigned a patent (
9,354,988) developed by Schroeder; Axel, Sinsheim, Germany, Schreter; Ivan, Malsch, Germany, and Thomsen, Dirk, Heidelberg, Germany, for a “allocation strategies for data storage applications.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A physical storage volume can be partitioned into a plurality of master blocks of an equal master block size. Each master block of the plurality of master blocks can be allocated for storage of a single storage page size of a plurality of predefined storage page sizes provided for storage of data by a data storage application. A received page size can be determined for a storage page designated by the data storage application for storage on the physical storage volume, and the storage page can be stored in a free block of a master block of the plurality of master blocks having the single page size equivalent to the received page size. Related methods, systems, and articles of manufacture are also disclosed.

The patent application was filed on March 28, 2011 (13/073,653).
