IBM Cloud Storage Solutions for i, V1.1 enables you to backup data to the cloud

IBM Cloud Storage Solutions for i is a new Licensed Program Product that provides an API that enables IBM i clients to connect to a public or private cloud. It can be used for backup and archiving.

Increasingly, IT clients are taking advantage of public or private cloud offerings to share files, backup data, and archive data. Cloud Storage Solutions for i is an offering that in its initial stage is designed to work seamlessly with a turnkey version of IBM Backup, Recovery and Media Services for i (BRMS) to send files and libraries to the cloud in the same manner as though the target were a local tape device.

The intended market consists of clients with under 1TB of DB2 and Integrated File System (IFS) data to save to either a public cloud storage provider, initially IBM SoftLayer, or a private cloud. A key consideration for viability for a given client is access to bandwidth that is sufficient to upload and download the backup data in a desired time window.
