Sony to merge factories, split unit to bolster storage business
The Japanese electronics giant will consolidate its two magnetic tape production sites in Miyagi Prefecture by the end of March 2018. No jobs will be cut, as the roughly 270 employees from the Toyosato line will join the Tagajo plant, which has about 560 workers, to boost efficiency. The factory will increase capacity for products targeting data centers, while maintaining the same level for consumer and broadcasting memory products.
