Raidix and Quanta Converged Storage Reveal Performance in Video Streaming Infrastructures
Operated by Raidix software within JetStor appliance
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 14, 2016 at 2:18 pmRaidix 4.4 storage technology bundled with Quanta Computer, Inc.‘s QuantaPlex T21P-4U converged server as part of a JetStor appliance were tested against disaggregated infrastructures in the demonstration laboratory of HyperScalers, an authorized distributor for Quanta Computer. in Australia and New Zealand.
The testing was performed in cooperation with AC&NC, the provider of JetStor solutions and US technology and business partner of Raidix LLC.
Raidix storage software is a cluster-in-a-box solution. It features a unified web interface that enables creation and maintenance of RAID partitions with flexibility and data integrity. The JetStor appliance runs the management software on converged box QuantaPlex T21P-4U supporting E5 CPU with up to 78 SAS 3.5″ HDD and 12Gb/s access.
The created NAS partition demonstrated performance with video streaming applications. The tests aimed to verify the performance showings and unlock the potential of the Raidix functionality on Quanta’s hardware. The sets also involved a cloud vs. LAN comparison, disk speed measurement on NAS, 1GbE vs. 10GbE performance and other factors.
As part of the test environment, twenty HDD drives were combined to provide a 120TB RAID partition and made available over NAS and SMB interfaces. Similar to real-life video processing, the NAS partition was accessed on multiple setups.
Test parameters involved:
-
Converged vs. disaggregated storage. According to the test, the storage performance in converged systems was measured at 123.75 MB/s opposed to 16.30 MB/s in disaggregated systems. The I/O access results leveled with IO/s showings – 1,980.08 IO/s in the converged infrastructure against 260.83 in disaggregated setups.
-
Cloud vs. LAN. The system revealed higher frame decode speeds of 29,899KB/s on LAN connection against 19,263kb/s on the cloud, with no frame loss detected.
-
Lossless software rebuild on HDD replacement. Raidix enables transition on hot disk replacement. Due to erasure coding algorithms, it revealed no downtime, disruption of the NAS traffic or performance degradation.
-
Accessibility. The appliance could be accessed using WAP DDNS. The administrator could open a port accessible via DDNS VPN according to the customer requirements.

As a result, Raidix delivered performance showings in the converged environment. The tests also unveiled methods to create, configure and enable storage partitions for external access. The combined power of Raidix technology and Quanta converged equipment proved efficient, performing and recommended for use in media and entertainment, video post-production, video analytics and other segments dealing with numerous sequential data threads.
On the other hand, Raidix also caters to extreme sequential workloads as part of SAN systems for video post-production, broadcasting, surveillance, etc. Since company’s solution performance is only limited by disk subsystem or interface throughput capabilities, it delivers even productivity with FC and IB protocols on modular access.
