Open Invention Network Assigned Two Patents

Providing storage checkpointing to group of independent computer applications, dynamic virtual storage creation and provisioning of VM resources

Providing storage checkpointing to group of independent computer applications
Open Invention Network LLC, Durham, NC, has been assigned a patent (9,449,015) developed by Havemose, Allan, Arroyo Grande, CA, and Backensto, Keith Richard, San Jose, CA, for a “
method and system for providing storage checkpointing to a group of independent computer applications.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A system and method for storage checkpointing to a group of independent computer applications. The system has a storage disk that stores files, a storage access interface to access the storage disk, and a computer. The computer runs the group of independent computer applications and utilizes the files stored on the storage disk. A file system on the server accesses the files stored on the storage disk. An operating system and at least one device driver can be called by the file system, and at least one buffer buffers first data written to the storage disk and second data read from the storage disk.

The patent application was filed on November 4, 2014 (14/532,713).

Dynamic virtual storage creation and provisioning of virtual machine resources
Open Invention Network LLC, Durham, NC, has been assigned a patent (9,436,496) developed by Suit, John Michael, Mount Airy, MD, for a “
method and system for providing storage checkpointing to a group of independent computer applications.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A method and apparatus are disclosed of identifying a virtual machine usage of enterprise network resources, such as memory storage usage. One example method of operation may include transmitting a storage request to a database to determine an amount of physical memory storage available in the enterprise network. The method may also include receiving an alert message indicating a virtual machine currently operating has exceeded a predetermined memory storage threshold value. The method may also include creating a new virtual hard disk, (VHD) to accommodate the exceeded predetermined memory storage threshold value.

The patent application was filed on October 13, 2015 (14/882,159).
