Infinidat InfiniBox 3.0 Trying to Beat EMC VMAX

One million IO/s, compression, iSCSI support, scalable to 5PB in 42U

INFINIDAT, Ltd. announced Version 3.0 of the InfiniBox enterprise storage system.

Infinidat,InfiniBox 3.0
Among its  new features, it offers over 1 million IO/s of throughput, sub-millisecond latency, compression, iSCSI support and scalability to over 5PB of effective storage capacity in a single standard 42U rack, enhancing the system’s ability to handle data at scale.

New features in InfiniBox Version 3.0 include:

  • Over 5PB of effective storage capacity in a single rack: With the addition of 8TB drives, InfiniBox now provides scalability to over 5PB of effective capacity in a single 19-inch/42U rack. InfiniBox continues to offer 99.99999% availability.
  • Faster than all-flash performance for real-world workloads: InfiniBox provides over 1 million IO/s of throughput with sub-millisecond latency. In recent customer benchmarks, the flash-optimized storage array proved to be faster than all-flash arrays with real-world workloads. InfiniBox 3.0 contains patented learning algorithms that keep the hottest data on the fastest media at all times, and with as much as three terabytes of DRAM and up to 200TB of flash, both reads and writes are optimized.
  • Inline compression: InfiniBox 3.0 includes an efficient inline data compression capability with no impact to performance. Enhanced compression adapts to the specific data types and applications being used and enables customers to maximize the usable storage in a single rack. By adding compression to InfiniBox’s dense architecture, along with the ability to manage data at scale and provide high performance and thin provisioning, INFINIDAT is leads in storage efficiencies and lowering the cost of storage. Compression and other features are designed to operate at scale with no impact on standard system capabilities such as reliability and availability.
  • iSCSI support: With its designed architecture, InfiniBox supports multiple storage networking protocols, including FC, NFS, and iSCSI, while maintaining performance, reliability, scalability and 100% of its feature set across all protocols. Delivering multi-protocol access supports a variety of applications, including those managed by cloud and service providers, who are looking to support multiple applications at a reduced CapEx and OpEx.
  • Enhanced performance analytics: Performance monitoring and analysis tools now enable customers to drill down to a granular level and obtain detailed analysis of system and application performance in real-time. The enhanced performance analytics provides reporting and filtering on dozens of data path parameters (IO source/target, IO type, latency, users, etc.), enabling storage administrators to identify the root cause of any performance anomaly. Additionally, performance analytics allows data to be collected on all datasets simultaneously. This data collection is performed by InfiniMetrics, INFINIDAT’s rich performance archive, allowing customers to further pinpoint the cause of a performance problem, even days after it occurred.

INFINIDAT and Brocade are committed to delivering storage solutions that provide breakthrough application performance and optimize business operations for our joint customers,” said Jack Rondoni, VP of storage networking, Brocade Communications Systems, Inc.InfiniBox 3.0’s IP protocol support and other powerful new features are a great match for the Brocade Gen 6 FC and IP storage solutions, providing the performance, flexibility and resiliency that enterprises need to manage demanding workloads.

The dense architecture of the InfiniBox has given us a great deal of confidence in what’s sitting in the rack from the nodes right down to the disks,” said Michel Danon, SVP and CIO, Hawai’i Medical Service Association (HMSA). “We look forward to leveraging the new compression capabilities to more effectively assess our future storage requirements and the cost of that storage.”

We are excited about the new iSCSI capability for our private cloud and DRaaS products,” said Dan Hamilton, VP of technology, Whipcord. “InfiniBox Version 3.0 will allow us to further boost the performance of our managed cloud services while keeping costs down.

INFINIDAT’s success is flying in the face of industry trends,” said Eric Burgener, research director storage, IDC. “While the hybrid flash array market overall is growing in the very low single digits, INFINIDAT continues to grow revenues for their highly Flash-optimized hybrid array at a rate that outperforms even the all flash array market growth rates. Their value proposition is clearly resonating with their enterprise and cloud service provider customers.”

INFINIDAT continues to forge a unique but compelling direction within the storage industry by developing its platform as one that is ‘flash-optimized’ as opposed to all-flash,” said Mark Peters, practice director and senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “With InfiniBox 3.0, the company is also making a significant leap forward by adding advanced storage management functionalities that respond to the needs of both enterprise customers and MSPs for simplicity as well as high performance.

With its pedigree and its unique, powerful and flexible architecture, INFINIDAT has what it takes to be a leader in storage,” said George Crump, president and founder, Storage Switzerland. “InfiniBox Version 3 delivers robust compression and other efficiency features without impacting the performance, reliability and scalability INFINIDAT customers have come to expect.”

Enterprises need a storage solution that is high performance yet extremely reliable and can meet the needs of their ever-changing and increasing workloads,” said Moshe Yanai, CEO, INFINIDAT. “With Version 3.0, InfiniBox offers unprecedented scalability, all-flash level performance and new capabilities delivering greater flexibility without impacting that performance. InfiniBox adds advanced capabilities meeting the evolving storage requirements of enterprises and cloud and service providers, yet it still maintains a low TCO.”

InfiniBox reliability features include end-to-end data protection; triple redundant power and data paths; snapshots and replication; and hot swap components. The storage arrays are also power-efficient, drawing a maximum of between 2.5-8KW at a full load. As a result of all its storage performance and efficiency capabilities, InfiniBox provides customers with a low TCO and an efficient storage consolidation platform.

INFINIDAT began shipping product in late 2013 and has placed over a half exabyte of storage capacity in production in enterprise data centers around the world. Customers include Fortune 500 companies in finance and banking, government, healthcare, energy, and cloud services.

Founded in 2011 by veteran enterprise storage visionary, Moshe Yanai (EMC, XIV, IBM), INFINIDAT is funded by investors TPG Growth and MII Ventures.

InfiniBox Version 3.0 will be available later in Q4. Solution pricing includes all software and three years of maintenance. All InfiniBox arrays are available from the company directly or from one of its channel partners or distributors.
