Daimler Has Selected PoINT Storage Manager
Through North American distribution partner Euroson America
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 29, 2016 at 2:57 pmEuroson America, Inc., the North American distribution partner for PoINT Software & Systems GmbH announces that Daimler AG has selected PoINT Storage Manager software for implementing their enterprise wide cloud archive.
The software stores inactive data from primary storage systems onto a central private cloud environment reducing the load on existing primary storage facilities at individual locations, also reducing the size of backups. The enterprise wide solution is planned to use a private cloud environment to store 50 to 80% of the data on primary storage devices in their individual plants – representing a quantity of data measured in petabytes. Because of the method Storage Manager interfaces with and uses the private cloud storage environment, it also meets all current security requirements.
Storage Manager is currently in use as a ‘file tiering gateway’ at the automobile manufacturer’s head office in Stuttgart, and at facilities in Bremen, Hamburg and Gaggenau. Additional sites will gradually follow suit – first in Germany, then in other countries, with the rollout expected to be complete by the end of 2016.
“We were convinced by the functionality and reliability of the PoINT Storage Manager” explained Peter Ott, project manager, Daimler’s storage and backup competence team. “The software gives our individual sites a transparent way to access off-site and write protected data using their primary storage systems, meaning that our applications and established processes remain unchanged. In particular, this affects Office documents, PDF files and images which have not been used for over 13 months“
Storage Manager provides ‘NetApp Compatible’ certified integration of NetApp StorageGRID Webscale as an archive device within a multi-tiered storage environment, providing automated policy based archiving from NetApp FAS systems while retaining transparent access via links using NetApp F-Policy. It also supports EMC and Windows servers as data source, allowing these users to take advantage of the benefits of StorageGRID Webscale.
