Virtium Extends High-Endurance Line of SSDs
With StorFly XE Class, 30GB to 480GB, industrial-grade MLC
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 21, 2016 at 3:08 pmVirtium LLC announced an extension of its high-endurance industrial SSD line with the debut of StorFly XE Class SSDs.
This new XE Class of drives bridges the gap between Virtium’s current StorFly CE Class SSDs, which are suited for boot-drive and/or lower workload environments, and the StorFly PE Class drives, designed for the most demanding workloads and highest reliability. By providing a middle category, industrial-system designers now have a selection of solid-state storage with which to meet their specific requirements.
StorFly XE Class SSDs leverage Virtium’s new industrial-grade MLC (iMLC) technology to strike a balance between high reliability and cost efficiency. They provide up to seven times greater R/W endurance than the StorFly CE Class and support industrial temperature (-40C to 85C) operation – all at a marginal price premium over CE Class SSDs.
“Many industrial-systems designers tell us they are challenged to reduce design costs while still retaining storage reliability and endurance,” said Scott Phillips, VP marketing, Virtium. “In developing the StorFly XE Class SSDs, our engineers discovered a highly innovative approach to SSD development that dramatically improves MLC endurance and data retention in extended-temperature environments while also improving write performance – yet at a price point that allays reliability and budget concerns.”
Like all StorFly industrial SSDs, the XE Class features vtGuard for added power-fail protection against data loss and vtSecure security features. Additionally, the drives are supported by vtView software for precision performance and life monitoring, and come with Virtium’s five-year warranty.
StorFly XE Class SSDs highlights:
- Endurance through iMLC at a minor impact on price over standard MLC.
- Industrial-temperature support, enabling greater data retention than standard MLC in extreme environments
- Capacity range from 30GB to 480GB
- Industry’s popular interfaces and form factors for embedded/industrial systems: M.2, CFast, Mini Card, mSATA, SlimSATA, 1.8″ and 2.5″
- Protection features (vtGuard and vtSecure)
- vtView monitoring software
- Adherence to RoHS and worldwide hazardous-substance compliance standards
