In collaboration with Atos SE, CEA chose Seagate ClusterStor, a scale-out storage and management platform, for its high-speed ability to derive maximum performance from every disk while reducing storage footprint – and ownership costs.
For Phase One of the GS1K infrastructure deployment, Seagate is providing a ClusterStor L300 system with 6PB HDD capacity and over 200GB/s file system throughput.
“For GS1K, it is critical for CEA to select partners that understand the unique challenges of building solutions at the leading edge of super-computing,” said Jacques-Charles Lafoucrière, department lead, CEA. “Seagate ClusterStor excels in performance and, over the past few years, ClusterStor has proven its stability in the most demanding HPC environments. Key environmental factors such as density and power requirements also weighed in favor of the ClusterStor solution.”
“All four of the new entrants of the world’s Top 10 supercomputers are powered by Seagate,” said Ken Claffey, VP and GM, Seagate HPC systems business. “CEA’s selection of Seagate for their two new main supercomputers further symbolizes our leadership in providing the highest performing, fully-engineered solutions for HPC.“
“The new Seagate L300 is one of the core elements of CEA’s current Global Storage 1000 (GS1K) storage platform, which will be further extended to handle the extreme data workloads of CEA’s forthcoming Tera 1000 machine,” says Eric Eppe, director of storage and data management product line, Atos, Bull Extreme Computing. “This is a really exciting time for Atos. By the end of 2017, CEA’s newly installed Bull Sequana X1000 is expected to rank #1 in the European top 500 and in the top 10 worldwide, running some of its fastest file systems on Seagate’s L300.“
