When backing up audio, video, archives or other data for the long term, M-DISC media makes the partner for the Mercury Pro. The M-DISC is an archival-quality storage technology that protects your data from degradation, and is designed to last as long as 1,000 years.

Unlike traditional discs which use susceptible ink dye to store data, M-DISCs use a proprietary micro-thin layer made from rock-like material for virtually permanent storage, offering protection from data rot and the extremes of light, humidity and temperature change. Because the M-DISC-ready Mercury Pro engraves the data into this layer, you’ll write once and read for generations to come.

Optical drives remain crucial to millions of users who need affordable, physical means for backup and archiving and even sharing of personal media. The OWC Mercury Pro is the premier solution for bringing optical capabilities back into your everyday workflow,” said Jennifer Soulé, president, OWC. “The Mercury Pro’s support for M-DISC creates a generations-long storage solution for everyday users or businesses that want or need to reliably store data and images for years to come.
