Tintri Delivers Entry-Level All-Flash Array: VMstore T5040
Adds Xenserver for concurrent hypervisor support; previews predictive analytics
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 16, 2015 at 2:38 pmTintri Inc. announced the VMstore T5040, an entry-level all-flash storage array.
The T5040 joins the existing VMstore T5000 All-Flash series and T800 hybrid-flash series to further expand customers’ choice of storage platforms that share a common OS and real-time analytics. This announcement also includes Tintri OS 4.1 and a preview of Tintri Analytics with VM and application level predictive analytics capabilities.
With OS 4.1, the company adds capabilities which include:
-
Support for Xenserver, which joins a long list of supported hypervisors including vSphere, Hyper-V, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, and OpenStack. VMstore is an VM-aware storage platform that supports concurrent hypervisors. This unique capability allows IT and cloud service providers to run multiple hypervisor workloads on the same datastore, eliminating the need to dedicate storage to different hypervisor workloads.
-
Support for vSphere Virtual Volumes (VVols), enabling snapshots, clones, revert, visibility and statistics all at the VM level through VMware vCenter operations, and QoS from company’s Global Center.
-
Hyper-V enhancements including SyncVM File-level restore, WMI Path Encryption, snapshot enhancements, and PowerShell cmdLets.
The VMstore T5000 series, which includes the T5040 in addition to the previously announced T5060 and T5080, can store up to 5,000 VMs in a 2U form factor and up to 100,000 VMs, 1.4PB of data and four million IO/s in a single 40U rack. The series is designed for very large database farms and large persistent virtual desktops, which demand predictable, high throughput and sub-millisecond latency across their entire multi-terabyte capacity. The T800 Hybrid-Flash series, with 99% of storage IO from flash, will continue to serve as the platform of choice for most server virtualization, VDI, private cloud and test and development use cases. In the critical capabilities for General-Purpose Midrange Storage Arrays report, published by Gartner on October 21, 2015, the T800 series received the second highest product score for the server virtualization and VDI use case. In addition to the products announced on December 10, 2015, the company will host a webinar previewing Tintri Analytics with predictive analytics capabilities. The firm has always delivered real-time, actionable VM-level analytics in its UI. This data allows customers to identify and troubleshoot issues with their virtualized applications, even those not related to storage, and allows company’s support to provide proactive assistance to our customers. Tintri Analytics will build on this same native VM-level metadata to be the only solution in the market to leverage the VM aware storage insights to provide a realistic profile of your VMs and applications to model growth of applications and additional need for capacity and performance. In concert with the VM-level analytics currently offered by company’s Global Center, which provides a single pane of management for VMstores including the T5040 array, the firm offers a definitive past, present and future view of application-level performance data to drive data center decisions.
“Tintri continues to prove that VM-aware storage can do things that are simply not possible with LUN and volume based systems,” said Ken Klein, CEO and chairman, Tintri. “We’ve added a smaller all-flash system to our line-up to extend the reach of VAS to new audiences and expanded multi-hypervisor support to include XenServer — that’s more choice for our customers. And while other vendors over-promise on analytics, Tintri over-delivers. The built-in analytics in our VMstores and Tintri Global Center already offer more control and visibility than competitor’s bolted-on, cloud-based offerings; and our new predictive capabilities will help organizations think beyond capacity to also make decisions based on performance and throughput needs — the complete picture.“
The VMstore T5040 and Tintri OS 4.1 will be available in December 2015. The T5040 is available for ordering worldwide. Tintri OS 4.1 will be available as a free upgrade to all Tintri VMstore customers with a current support contract.
