Infinidat Partners With Commvault
To integrate IntelliSnap technology with InfiniBox enterprise array
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 15, 2015 at 2:46 pmInfinidat Ltd, announced a partnership with Commvault Systems, Inc. to integrate Commvault’s IntelliSnap technology with the its InfiniBox enterprise storage array.
The partnership addresses the needs of the companies’ shared clients to ensure the availability of their most critical asset – their data. Integrating IntelliSnap with InfiniBox enables clients to centrally manage an unlimited number of snapshots without any performance impact to the production environment. As part of the integration, IntelliSnap is supporting InfiniBox’s snapshot capability through its next generation software portfolio and open data platform.
The companies point to the most recent Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Disk Based Backup and Recovery, which states: “By 2018, 40% of organizations will augment traditional backup and recovery with additional products or replace their current backup application.”
The report also states: “By 2016, 20% of organizations, up from 7% today, will employ only snapshot and replication techniques, abandoning traditional backup/recovery.“
“Looking at the market, we want to enable our customers to easily manage the full data protection process,” said Jacob Broido, chief product officer, Infinidat. “By integrating IntelliSnap from Commvault, InfiniBox ensures application consistent snapshots that can be leveraged for any business use case, including data protection, DevOps, analytics or reporting, while maintaining peak performance.“
InfiniBox has the ability to take hundreds of thousands of snapshots on a single storage platform without impacting performance. Snapshots can be taken at frequent intervals and kept on the system for any length of time, enabling users to have more granular recovery point objectives and RTOs when compared to traditional data protection solutions.
“InfiniBox offers a robust snapshot capability that, combined with Commvault IntelliSnap, coordinates the process of snapshots and ensures that application data remains consistent,” said Don Foster, senior director, solutions marketing and technical alliances, Commvault. “With this integration, we’re helping to provide customers with the assurance their snapshots can be accessed quickly for recovery and even more importantly can be used for any business need that requires access to a copy of production data.“
IntelliSnap helps coordinate the InfiniBox snapshot process with the native applications, hypervisors and file systems to ensure they are written consistently when the snapshot is created. As a result, any supported application, hypervisor or filesystem running on InfiniBox will have consistent and indexed snapshots of all files, databases or VMs for instant recovery inside the InfiniBox array. Commvault also allows multipurpose use of InfiniBox snapshots for development and test, data refresh operations, application reporting operations or for generating low-impact off-host protection operations. Together, the Infinidat and Commvault solutions help customers address the evolving challenges of managing data in rapidly changing business environments.
