Starline Areca ARC-4038 JBOD With Eight 12Gb SAS Slots

Starline Computer GmbH introduces the Areca ARC-4038 JBOD enclosure with 12Gb SAS architecture with 12Gb SAS backplane for performance and large storage requirements in a handy tower format.

The ARC-4038 has eight 12Gbps SAS drive slots. The SAS standard allows backward compatibility to 6Gb SAS and SATA drives. In the supplied drive carrier 2.5″ SFF and 3.5″ LFF drives can be installed. So the Areca system offers a variety of configuration options: Nearline SAS for high capacity, fast SSDs for fast I/O processes, or both, depending on customer requirements. Through the SAS expansion port, the system capacity can be increased up to 256 drives.

The SAS expander in the ARC-4038 supports DataBolt. This technology summarizes the bandwidth of multiple 6Gb/s drives to achieve 12Gb/s performance. This requires the support of the RAID controller.

An intelligent cooling system is installed in the solid enclosure. It automatically controls the speed of the fan and enables optimum cooling at a low nise level. Thus, the enclosure is also suitable for the quiet use in offices, medical practices and retail stores.

Thanks to 12Gb SAS architecture the ARC-4038 offers, in combination with an ARC-1883x SAS RAID controller performance. The controller is suitable for Windows, VMware, Solaris, Linux and Mac OS X. This solution is energy-efficient, performant and for audio and 4K video editing.
